2 Stars Great Game, Special Value EditioinStinks
I found that the Beatles Rock Band game is great. I love the way it plays and how fun it is.
However, I am not thrilled that none of the instruments are wireless. In addition, this Special value Edition for the WII comes with a USB hub with 4 ports to plug in the microphone and instruments. However, it does NOT come with a power supply for the hub. I discovered that other versions come with a powered hub - the XBox360 version and the more expensive version of the WII. I ended up having to buy a power adaptor for $40 in order to be able to use the hub. It wasted my time and my money and if I didn’t enjoy the game so much, I would have just returned it.
4 Stars Lots of Fun for the Beatlemaniac
Let me preface by saying I’ve never played any other version of Rock Band or Guitar Hero. The controllers may be better on them. Obviously, by buying the basic pack, I don’t care that much about the looks or wires of the controllers, I want to play Beatles songs. The game was highly enjoyable. It took about three days of non-stop playing to get through everything “singing” only. I’ve only played a little with the drums and guitar and need much more practice to get through those levels. If you aren’t a hard-core gamer and you just want to have fun for a reasonable amount of money and you love the Beatles, this is your game. I don’t understand why someone would buy a set with instruments if they already had ones from another game anyway… maybe I just don’t understand since I’ve never tried those games. The only problem I had was switching from one instrument to another in game without having to go all the way back to the Wii menu and that’s not that big of a deal. It just seems that if the controller is plugged in when you are playing whether you are using it or not, it should recognize it and let you switch to it. No big deal.
2 Stars Don’t make the same mistake - this is not a value at all
I bought this and while the game itself is a blast, here’s the realization I made after reading an online PSA that did the research I should have done myself:
$[...] The Beatles Rock Band Special Value Edition (Beatles Rock Band Game, original Rock Band instruments)
Or:
$[...] Rock Band 2 (Rock Band 2 game, newer instruments with improved design over original Rock Band instruments)
$[...] The Beatles Rock Band (software only)
(Amazon.com prices used.)
Unfortunately, overexcited at the prospect of buying the game for $[...] less than I thought I would have to, the $[...] set with special Beatles instruments being the only available edition previously, I purchased this edition.
So, don’t make the same mistake that I did. Definitely get this wonderful game if you’re considering it, as just about any review can tell you. But buy the Rock Band 2 set and the software alone, and you’ll have better instruments and an extra game for the exact same price.
What a fool I was!
3 Stars Love the game, disappointed with the peripherals
The bundle came with RB1 peripherals! What’s up with that! All the while I thought I’ll be receiving the RB2 drum kit (I was planning on buying cymbals for it). The guitar keeps on disconnecting during the game! And that is with fresh batteries. I thought at first it was my distance that was the problem but no matter how near or far I get still disconnects during a song! I ended up buying a new guitar (made me spend more)
They should have made clear that this special value bundle comes with RB1 peripherals. It is just a bit misleading. They didn’t say they’ll be giving RB2, true but that is what they are selling now right? So logically the consumer will think he’ll be getting the latest hardware right? I think they are just cleaning old stock that is why they came up with this.
I would not recommend this bundle. To be clear I love the game but this bundle is a disappointment. If you want a bundle just get the limited edition. Or just buy the peripherals individually or get the RB2 bundle then just get the Beatles software.
5 Stars If your a fan, get it!!!! GH guitar works with it +++
If you are a fan of the beatles, this is awesome!! As for the skill of the game, it seems to be a little easier than other band games. Maybe that is due to the fact that I already know all the songs by heart. They included real audio clips from actual events like the Ed Sullivan Show and also from recording studio sessions. The graphics are pretty great, and can sometimes be distracting when you’re trying to ace a song (especially in the studio). I would recommend waiting through the loooooooooong credits (10 or so minutes) a nice little encore awaits. The best part of it for me was the fact that my GH guitar and Boogie Mic work with the game, AWESOME!!!
